Frequently Asked Questions

1.When is it best to start looking into getting help around the home?

Most people can remain in their own homes longer with just a small amount of help around the house. People are realizing, at an earlier age, that a little help now will extend the time they can remain safe, comfortable and independent in their own homes. Allowing one of Anna’s Helpers into their homes can make this possible. It is best to be proactive by having help around the home before one becomes ill or injured. Waiting till there is an injury or illness puts the family into a situation where decisions that must be made quickly with few options but to place their loved one in a facility.

2. What do we mean by “just a small amount of help”?
If it is home cooked meals that are needed, one of Anna’s Helpers will prepare the meal and (my favorite part) leave you with a sparkling clean kitchen. Some clients will simply ask for meals to be prepared and light housekeeping chores to be tended to while the meal is being prepared. All the while this visit assures the client and family that there is one on one contact being made with the client for that day. Some companies have what is called a wellness check and will charge you for a “stop by” visit that may not include any household help. If an Anna’s Helper comes to the home they will be attending to the client and their home for whatever time is agreed on.

3. Can we take care of medical needs?

Simply put the answer is no, but when medical professionals are needed they will come to the home and take care of the needed medical procedures and once they leave, our care giving homemakers can step in and provide the next level of care.

4. What might be an indication that some help is needed in the home?

Noticing a loved one’s gradual lack of good hygiene or grooming is a “heads up” there may be a problem. Our care giving homemakers can assist them with the daily routines needed to be well groomed. Helping with the bath or just stand by assistance is all some of them need. Our helpers can assist them in picking out their clothes for the day and then give them the help they need get dressed. Oral hygiene will also be looked after, again sometimes they just need the reminder or suggestion.

5. What are some of the common requests that we may get from a client?

Staying on top off all the laundry including the bed linens is a real plus to having help around the house. Getting the home back into “shape” then keeping it that way is one of those common request that we can provide. Making sure there is food in the home and the preparation of that food is another request along with keeping an “eye” on the refrigerator contents. Just think of all those little things that are part of the running of a clean neat home and those are the types of chores with which we can help.

6. How will our caregivers know what the client needs and wants?

Before one of our caregivers comes to your home to begin helping, one of us will come and set up a basic plan on what you would like to see accomplished when the Anna’s Helper comes to your home. Once we get you set up with help, that assigned caregiver will sit down, listen and talk with their clients concerning everything from meals, appointments, house keeping routines and many other concerns.

7. What if the client is not capable of making the needed decisions to obtain the help they need?

In the case where the client might need assistance in knowing what they need help with and how often, we can meet and evaluate then make some recommendations. Let us assure you we realize, for many, that this type of service will need to be part of one’s household budget and we will base our recommendations with that in mind. Please read the ’ABOUT US” section of this website, in doing so you will know that we have personally experienced everything that goes into obtaining good care for our own mother and the cost associated with this care.

Along with being bonded and insured all caregivers employed by Anna’s Helpers have had a thorough background check along with a check of their driving record.
